Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak: “It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, Flight MH370 in the southern Indian ocean.”
While the mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370‘s disappearance has been demystified through Inmarsat’s mathematical analysis, it’s wreckage hasn’t been found yet. And so, after the Malaysian Prime Minister announced the “closure” of the search, families of the 239 passengers and crew vehemently protested.
Of course! There’s even no debris or fragment to prove that it’s indeed over.. and then Razak just closes the case??
Here, we could see how important a leader’s sensitivity is. Look, most everyone except some leaders (if put in such a situation) themselves probably wouldn’t have noticed anything wrong in ending the search, after all, it’s been almost 3 weeks since the plane’s disappearance.
Equating this incident to corporate leadership.. could be reflected in one question: Do you think talking about a leader’s sensitivity here and now is too trivial (since the issue is just all over the news, and where reactions are simply obvious and expected)?
If you could answer the question honestly then you’d have a good idea of how you’re really doing as a Leader – with a chance to improve of course. Yes means you are in reality an inconsiderate leader that people only follows because of your position. No means you understand people and is emphatic enough (without crossing any line) to lead effectively. This kind of technique is especially useful in training, reassignments or promotions. See, it’s that simple.
What’s your take?
